VSU-ITSO Bronze Awardee

The Intellectual Property of the Philippines (IPOPHL) awarded Visayas State University (VSU) as one of the 11 recipients of the Bronze Cluster Award during the Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) Presidents’ Summit for the previous year.

This award is given to academic and research institution members of ITSO when they can meet the Intellectual Property (IP) capacity-building requirements for one calendar year.

A new rice variety that may become the key to addressing the lack of vitamin A in the body was officially introduced to the local farmers of Eastern Visayas through a symposium mainly organized by the newly created Department of Agriculture - Crop Biotechnology Center (DA-CBC).

Dr. Tolentino

The College of Management and Economics (CME) successfully invited one of the six members of the monetary board from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) as their anniversary convocation speaker to discuss national fiscal policies and how it impacts agricultural development.

In his keynote message, Dr. V. Bruce J. Tolentino, who is the Private Sector Representative of the BSP talked about how our present monetary policy forced the national government to accommodate an uncompetitive agricultural strategy wherein many of the current interventions are anchored on farmer dole-outs that are not bringing direct gains to the national economy.
