The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) congratulated the ten (10) higher education institutions (HEIs) in the Philippines that were ranked in the June 2023 edition of the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings.
This is the first time that VSU got enlisted in this prestigious roster of top universities in Asia by getting a Reporter Status along with 5 other universities including Cebu Technological University (CTU), Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), University of Santo Tomas (UST), University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP), and the Tarlac Agricultural University.
This Reporter Status indicates that VSU is an active participant in the rankings process, even though it has not been officially ranked just yet.
According to a special explainer of THE, the inclusion of institutions with Reporter Status was an attempt to be inclusive by involving universities that submitted data but didn’t meet the criteria as many of these institutions are still growing their capabilities while others are newly founded, or are changing their missions.
Additionally, universities categorized under the Reporter Status are arranged alphabetically and are presented at the end of the ranking tables.
For the second consecutive time this year, the Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU) overtakes the University of the Philippines (UP) as the top higher education institution in the country by being the only PH school to make it to the Top 100 among the 928 universities enlisted this year.
According to the United Kingdom-based group, ADMU ranked 84th in Asia followed by the University of the Philippines with its standing at rank 201-250, then De La Salle University (DLSU) at rank 501-600, and Mapua University at rank 601+.
On the official Facebook page of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), they said that the inclusion of ten (10) Philippine universities is a testament to the dedication, resilience, and excellence of Filipino educators and students.
They also posed a challenge to other universities and colleges to continue raising the bar of Philippine higher education on the global stage by getting enlisted in more globally-accepted international ranking systems.
In response, VSU President Edgardo E. Tulin expressed his delight at the continued inclusion of VSU in many prestigious world ranking systems as an indication of greater global competitiveness and relevance.
“I always see these findings as an indication of where we are and where we should be headed in the future. Getting a Reporter Status is not that easy but we’re hopeful that sooner or later, VSU’s standing will continue to grow and improve so that one day, we will be officially ranked by the Times Higher Education (THE). There’s so much to accomplish in this regard and I’m confident that we will soon get there because of the commitment of all #ProudViscans to make VSU great in the many years to come,” Dr. Tulin said.
