The College of Nursing conducted on April 12, 2012 the 2nd Pinning Ceremony at the VSU Convention Center. The ceremony recognized the 48 BS Nursing graduates who just received their diplomas during the 59th VSU Collegiate Commencement Exercises to formally welcome them into the brotherhood and sisterhood of nurses.

Dr. Oscar B. Posas, VP for Instruction, who represented the VSU President, Dr. Jose L. Bacusmo, signed on March 27, 2012 a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Provincial Agrarian Reform Officers (PAROs) Oscar Reloj and Elisea Orapa of DAR-Leyte and DAR-Biliran, respectively, at the VSU Grounds in Baybay City, Leyte.

To ascertain that VSU will qualify for Level IV Accreditation by the Accrediting Agency for Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines, Inc. (AACCUP), a Consultation-Workshop for Level IV Accreditation (Phase I) of VSU's Agriculture and Education Programs was held on April 19-20, 2012 at the VSU Accreditation Center.

AnWaray Scholarship GrantThirteen VSU students qualified for the scholarship of the An Waray Scholarship Program with the assistance of the University Student Services Office headed by Prof. Manolo B. Loreto, Jr. and Ms. Chona A. Brit, HEI Scholarship Coordinator. They are Cristuto Acompañado, Jr. (BSHRTM-4), Regine A. Alao (BSFT-3), Mary Rose K. Canayong (BSChem-4), Joseph A. Cano (BSA-3), Elfleda S. Clerigo (BEEd-3), Rochelyn E. De la Cerna (BSF-4), Irene B. Feniza (DVM-4), Geraldo S. Galoy (BSA-3), Sarah Mae M. Mullaneda (BSDC-3), Eva Marie P. Oraiz (BSBio-3), Cristina S. Velunta (BSFT-2), Cahrra Joy Wales (BSCE-2) and Clarissa Jean M. Ybañez (BSDC-3).

Representatives from the affected communities in the sites of struggles (SOS) of mining operations in the Leyte Island attended the "Forum on the Impacts of Mining in Leyte Island" held on April 27, 2012 at the Training Hall of the Institute for Strategic Research and Development Studies (ISRDS).

Mary Grace Z. Saldino, a scholar of the Baybay City Alay Lakad Foundation, led in this year's batch of 114 graduates of the VSU Laboratory High School (VSULHS) who received their diploma on March 28, 2011 at the VSU Gymnatorium. In her valedictory address, Mary Grace acknowledged the Baybay City Alay Lakad Foundation Scholarship for helping her financially in pursuing her secondary education. "I am proud to be a scholar of the Foundation because it is very instrumental of what I am today. May you continue to help less privileged youth in our society," she stressed.

Dr. Lucia M. Borines, professor of the Department of Pest Management (DPM) and head of the Plant Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (PDDL), was recognized for her outstanding accomplishments in instruction by the Pest Management Council of the Philippines (PMCP) during its Annual Scientific Conference on May 8-11, 2012 at Mallberry Suites, Cagayan de Oro City.
