Director Michael M. dela Cruz, Director II of the Western Leyte-Biliran Field Office, joined the VSU cummunity in the culmination of the 113th Philippine Civil Service Commission Anniversary Month Celebration in the afternoon of September 25, 2013 at the VSU Gymnatorium.
The young and energetic CSC Director even joined the VSU employees in the Fun Walk/Run as one of the highlights of the culmination program which kicked-off at the VSU Eco Park going to the new VSU Oval and finally to the VSU Gymnatorium for the Culmination Program.
Dr. Edgardo E. Tulin, VP for Planning and Resource Generation and OIC of the University, encouraged the VSU employees to live by the true essence of a public servant as reflected in this year’s theme, “Tatak Lingkod Bayani: Isabuhay, Ipagmalaki at Ipagbunyi.” “Regardless of status and position you are holding, we should live by being a hero public servant. This is a gift and we should take this with pride because not all are given the opportunity to be one of the millions of public servants in the country,” Dr. Tulin averred. He added that we should project a positive image of the Philippine bureaucracy for us to claim that we are a hero public servant.
Dr. Tulin also challenged the VSU employees to begin whatever transformation is needed within ourselves. He is quite optimistic that we can achieve our objectives if we only just live by the ideals of a very good public servant.
On the other hand, Dir. dela Cruz, in his message, emphasized the role of being a hero which simply emplies answering the call of our duties and responsibilities. He pointed out that an act of heroism is spelled out by our partnership as we deliver quality service to our clients as mandated by the Commission in which he acknowledged VSU being at the forefront of this partnership.
He also proudly said that the Visayas State University is the first to be reaccreditted by the CSC in their new program to institutionalize meritocracy and excellence in human resource management.
Director dela Cruz also challenged the VSU employees to work hard in its quest for the Center of Excellence in Prime HRM as there is no government agency throughout the country accredited to that level. “Let’s try to make ourselves being a Lingkod Bayani, as manifested by our own lives, in giving all the best towards public service,” dela Cruz concluded.
The occasion also paved the way in giving the loyalty awards and pins to some VSU employees who are still serving the University for 10 years, 15 years, 20 years, 25 years, 30 years, 35 years and beyond.
Likewise, two VSU employees were given recognition for their honesty by returning a big amount of money they found at the administration building and returning them to the rightful owner. The employees who are worthy of emulation are: Mr. Arturo B. Alba, Jr., a Job Order Worker, and Mr. Antonio P. Bengalan, a Casual Security Guard.
Culmination Program was enlivened with the awarding of prizes to the winners in the Fun Run/Walk and in the Zumba. A raffle draw also added merriment to the celebration.
