Associate Professor Dr. Janet Alexis A. De los Santos remains the lone VSU faculty listed in the World’s Top 2% Scientists published by Elsevier on September 16, 2024.
This worldwide ranking compiles top-cited scientists based on the impact of researchers' citations. This is a publicly accessible database published by Elsevier that highlights the top 100,000 scientists, or 2% of the global scientific community.
This database includes key metrics such as the h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index, citation counts by authorship role, and a composite indicator known as the c-score.
The Stanford University team produces the ranking using Scopus data, the world’s largest abstract, indexing, and citation database provided by Elsevier, using the International Center for the Study of Research Lab.
Dr. De los Santos is known for her contributions to the most-cited research on COVID-19 and HIV/AIDS. She is an HIV advocate and has devoted her time and expertise to training people to end the stigma against HIV. She was recently recognized as a certified HIV counselor by the Department of Health.
According to the August 2024 data update for "Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators,” Dr. De los Santos has 33 published papers from 2018 to 2023 data. She obtained a total c-score of 2.6567 points from all citations.
“This is a testament to our hard work and dedication to global competitiveness and prominence; I'm honored and proud to represent our university,” says Dr. De los Santos, as VSU is the only higher education institution in Eastern Visayas that made it to the list. “With the potential of our faculty members doing quality research publications, I believe there will be more of us on the list in the near future.”
Earlier this year, Dr. De los Santos won the best mentor in health research in the Philippines from the Department of Science and Technology—Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD).
On top of that, she also received the Vicente Teves Locsin, Jr. Research and Scholarship in Nursing Award in June 2024, which was granted by the International Association for Human Caring during its 45th Annual Conference held at Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, Florida Atlantic University in the United States. This award is designed to motivate students, nurses, researchers, and educators to combine technology with compassionate care in nursing.
