BLS-CPR Training 2024

To equip Viscan student nurses with vital life-saving skills for emergency medical situations, the VSU College of Nursing, in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross Hilongos Chapter, conducted comprehensive training in First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS)—Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) at the university.

The training was led by Mr. Noemel H. Picson, RN, MMHA, and Mr. Rizalino Montezo, both seasoned and certified instructors from the Philippine Red Cross, who offered Viscan student nurses both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in First Aid and BLS-CPR techniques.

Mr. Picson, known for his expertise in healthcare management and emergency response, ensured all participants understood the importance of quick and effective action in cardiac arrest and emergencies.

He was supported by VSU Red Cross Youth (RCY) volunteers, including Mr. David Gomez, Ms. Samantha Albina, and others, who helped run the hands-on exercises. Their efforts reflected the values of volunteerism and community service at the heart of the Philippine Red Cross movement.

The Red Cross instructors and VSU RCY volunteers fostered an engaging learning environment, encouraging students to participate in simulations and practice their skills confidently. The training featured comprehensive modules on first aid, basic life support, assessing medical emergencies, and correctly administering CPR for adults, children, and infants.

The Philippine Red Cross Hilongos Chapter, led by Ms. Everlisa N. Alotaya, RN, has been a trusted partner of VSU in training student nurses. This collaboration is impactful as it not only enhances the skills of future healthcare professionals but also cultivates a culture of preparedness and safety in the growing Viscan community.

The training for Level 3 and Level 4 Viscan student nurses was held in two batches from September 11 to 12 and September 13 to 14, 2024. To formally acknowledge their competency in the First Aid and BLS-CPR training, the student participants were given certificates of completion, memberships, and insurance from the Philippine Red Cross.
