To cap off the month-long celebration of the 124th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary, VSU organized its annual recognition of employees who rendered more than a decade of service to the university. 

This year, 85 VSU employees who worked for VSU for 10 to 45 years were conferred loyalty awards. 

Aside from the loyalty awardees, VSU faculty scholars who completed their advanced degrees from September 2023 to September 2024 in different universities here and abroad were also recognized.

In her welcome remarks, VSU President Prose Ivy G. Yepes highlighted the role of public servants in national development. 

"The civil service has seen significant transformations over the years, and this year’s celebration was no different. Together, we have highlighted the resilience, adaptability, and forward-thinking that are required to navigate the evolving demands of public service. 'STRIDES for Excellence and Impact'—this reminds us of our commitment to efficiency, transparency, and responsiveness in our service to the Filipino people," Pres. Yepes shared.

Atty. Marilyn E. Taldo, the Regional Director of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) in Eastern Visayas, congratulated VSU for producing 10 awardees under the Honor Awards Program of CSC from 1992 to 2024.

“Since becoming an institution of learning and experiencing several transformations in its official name, the Visayas State University has continuously professed its core values that it has evolved as a leading global university in agriculture and allied fields, manned by world-class faculty members and staff,” Atty. Taldo said.

This year, VSU obtained new Presidential Lingkod Bayan Awardees with Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovation, Dr. Santiago T. Peña, in the individual category, and PHILGAP Champs composed of Professor Zenaida C. Gongaza, Gideon Niel D. Tan, Concepcion B. Miro, and Miro C. Abarquez, for the group category.

Dr. Peña and PHILGAP Champs were awarded medals and plaques by the Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., during the 2024 Awards Rites for Outstanding Government Workers on September 18, 2024, at the Malacañan Palace.
