VSU officially started the new academic year on August 12, 2024, in all its five campuses. The university welcomed 2,399 first-year students enrolled in the first semester of 2024-2025 in the Main Campus.
To begin the semester, the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Services (OVPSAS) headed by Dr. Aleli A. Villocino, and the Office of the Dean of Students led by Dr. Christina A. Gabrillo, spearheaded the yearly Student Onboarding Program and Campus Tour to introduce the services and programs to the newest students.
The two-day onboarding program ran from August 13 to 14 at the VSU Gymnatorium to accommodate students from the eight colleges. The first cluster of students was from the College of Agriculture and Food Science, College of Nursing, College of Engineering and Technology, College of Forestry and Environmental Science, and College of Veterinary Medicine.
Meanwhile, the students from the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Management and Economics, and College of Education belonged to the second batch.
After the onboarding program, the students toured the different departments, research centers, and academic offices to get acquainted with the university edifices.
Among the topics tackled in this year’s general student onboarding program include food services, culture and arts, library services, sports development program, VSU E-learning Environment, health and safety services, safety and security, and student services.
VSU President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes, who took her official oath, welcomed the new students and emphasized the importance of university life not only about academics but by making memories and discovering passions in between.
“Our dear students, #ProudViscans, welcome to another exciting academic year at Visayas State University. As you begin this new chapter, whether you are returning to familiar grounds or stepping onto campus for the first time, I want to remind you that this is a time to not only grow academically but also to enjoy the journey. This year, let’s make the most of every opportunity. Embrace learning, make new friends, and discover your passions,” Dr. Yepes highlighted.
She also added the guiding values centralized in her stewardship as the 7th university president of VSU.
“As you navigate your studies, remember to carry with you the values that define us as Viscans: Service, Truth, Resilience, Integrity, Discipline, Excellence, and Social Justice. These values will not only guide your academic pursuits but also shape the person you aspire to become. But beyond the books and lectures, don’t forget to have fun. Join in the campus activities, explore new interests, and create memories that will last a lifetime. University life is about balance, working hard, making connections, and finding joy in the process. Together, let’s make this academic year one of growth, discovery, and success. Welcome to the VSU family and here’s to a fantastic year ahead.”

This year, the university launched its TikTok account to cover Viscan life and feature sustainable initiatives, academic achievements, and research development. The University Integrated Media Center posted the first edition of the Viscamustahan and the Campus Tour to engage its content with the students.
