The Philippine Root Crops Research and Training Center (PhilRootcrops) just turned 44 on March 19, 2021.

More than fifty state universities and colleges from all over the Philippines participated in the biggest expo yet organized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in partnership with Rizal Technological University (RTU) on March 9-11, 2020, held at Trinoma Activity Center in Quezon City.

A new iconic structure inside the Visayas State University (VSU) Main Campus will soon be opened to make way for greater research productivity.

In an international congress on root and tuber crops, scientists from the Philippine Root Crops Research and Training Center (PhilRootcrops) based in Visayas State University presented an innovative case to process sweet potato, leaving nothing to waste.

To prepare the university for future crises and emergencies that may happen in a post-COVID world, the Visayas State University is taking an active part in the ‘Futures Thinking’ initiative, spearheaded by Philippine Senator Pilar Juliana “Pia” S. Cayetano.

Visayas State University faculty-researchers at the National Coconut Research Center - Visayas (NCRC-V) bag the coveted PAG-ASA Award of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) for 2019. 

A ceremonial groundbreaking was held for the establishment of the first Sweet Potato Processing Center in the Visayas held on December 8, 2020 at the Women’s Training Center in Barangay Cogon, Baybay City.

The Philippine Root Crop Research and Training Center (PhilRootcrops) continues to contribute in the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic by reinforcing their Integrated Extension Program on Root Crops to promote food security, nutrition, and livelihood development in some marginalized agricultural barangays of Baybay City, Leyte. This project has been ongoing since April 2020 despite community lockdowns implemented within Baybay CIty and the greater Leyte area.

As VSU’s vision shifts to a bigger scope to become “a globally competitive university of science, technology, and environmental conservation,” VSU President Edgardo E. Tulin continues to groom the university to be able to compete in the international arena by providing access to state-of-the-art buildings and facilities, globally competent workforce, accredited quality programs, and strong linkages with local, national and international partners.

The Philippine Root Crop Research and Training Center (PhilRootcrops), with the Visayas Socio-Economic Research and Data Analytics Center (ViSERDAC) hosted a virtual training on May 26 and 27, 2020.

The Civil Service Commission - Region 8 commended VSU, its administrators, and academicians during the annual Regional Awards Rites, dubbed this year as Pasidungog 2018.
