VSU lawn tennis and softball women athletes win medals in nat’l SCUAA games

After winning the gold in the Regional SCUAA Meet in October 2014, the VSU Lawn Tennis Women Varsity Team composed of Elgy Dasian, sophomore Doctor of Veterinary Medicine; Elma Dasian, junior Bachelor of Secondary Education; and Ma. Theresa Tagalog, freshman BS in Computer Science; with Mr. Lyndon Maningo, instructor of the Institute of Human Kinetics, as coach, in lieu of Mr. Vincent Nel D. Antipaso, took the silver medal during the National State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Olympic Games. Diezanne Jireh D. Antipaso, senior BS in Civil Engineering and a member of the team, signified not to join the national competition to give priority to her studies.
Moreover, the three softball women players of VSU who were drafted to join the EVSU Softball Team being the champion in the said event during the Regional SCUAA, took home the bronze medal. The players were Francis Diana Michan V. Asis, freshman BS in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management; Frances Mae Pizon, freshman BS in Agriculture; and Judy Ann P. Salva, sophomore BS in Civil Engineering.
This year’s National SCUAA Olympic Games with the theme “One Vision, One Roadmap, One Response through Sports” was held on February 8-15, 2015 with the Cagayan State University in Tuguegarao City as the host institution.
During the 8-day sports joust, the 40 delegates of VSU composed of 31 college students, 6 coaches, and 3 officials who were shortlisted to join the whole delegation from Eastern Visayas (Region VIII) was headed by Dr. Othello B. Capuno, VSU VP for Research and Extension, who represented the VSU President Jose L. Bacusmo.
