CDA partnership

The Cooperative Development Authority partnered with VSU through the Department of Economics to conduct trainers’ training on the cooperatives’ fundamentals, governance, and management.

VSU President Prose Ivy G. Yepes and CDA Regional Director Venus M. Jornales signed the Memorandum of Agreement on November 27, 2024, to formalize the collaboration in the presence of CDA VIII Assistant Regional Director Maripaz M. Del Pilar and Mr. Ernesto F. Bulayog, Associate Professor from the Department of Economics.

This partnership fulfills the CDA’s goal under Republic Act 11364, which aims to create strategic alliances with academic institutions, championing cooperative advocacy and educational development.

In his message, Asec. Abdulsalam A. Guinomla, Board Member III of the CDA, praised the efforts of the CDA regional extension office, headed by Director Jornales, and VSU for their joint commitment to advancing education and training of cooperatives in the country.

“We all join together in the pursuit of leveling up and strengthening the implementation of the provision of the Republic Act 11364, which mandates the CDA and SUCs, the learning agencies of the government, to further enhanced collaborations and partnerships for education, training, and seminars with a primary objective to support cooperative sectors of our society,” Asec. Guinomla narrated.

Under this partnership, VSU will facilitate training-of-trainers sessions through the Department of Economics, assist in refining and finalizing the course outline, and foster research to assess the impact and effectiveness of the training programs.

VSU Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Rotacio S. Gravoso also acknowledged the efforts of Viscan alumnus Mr. Ryan Barcelo of the CDA Central Office, who is instrumental in making this linkage possible.

“Today marks a significant milestone in our collaborative journey as we gather to sign a Memorandum of Agreement between CDA and VSU on the implementation of training of trainers. This agreement represents our shared commitment to promote cooperativism, not only at VSU but also in the communities we serve. We need to promote cooperativism because, alone, we can do so little, but together we can do so much,” VP Gravoso shared.
