VSU is now partnering with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) of Region VIII to implement the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), the capacity-building initiative of DSWD to uplift communities against poverty.
The collaboration was sealed with the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between VSU President Prose Ivy G. Yepes and DSWD Field Office VIII Regional Director Grace Q. Subong on September 10, 2024.
For this partnership, VSU will assist DSWD in organizing and implementing SLP within the region as part of its mandate to render extension services and share its expertise in agriculture, research, innovation, entrepreneurship, management, and tourism towards development.
VSU’s role in implementing SLP in the region is to provide technical assistance to capacitate the identified program participants who will carry the necessary knowledge and skills to build a sustainable source of income.
SLP’s mission is to improve the socio-economic condition of its participants by providing them with the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources for a sustainable livelihood. Four of its funding services include the Seed Capital Fund, Cash-for-Building-Livelihood Assets Fund, Skills Training Fund, and Employment Assistance Fund.
Joint activities between VSU and DSWD for this partnership include identifying and assessing target areas where the SLP will be implemented; knowledge and information sharing; capacity building and social preparation; livelihood and economic support interventions; market facilitation and reporting; resource sharing and technical assistance; establishment of composite action team who will monitor and evaluate the implementation of the program.
