PEHM CLUB

The Physical Education and Health Majors Club is a course-related organization recognized by the University Student Services Office. It's services are focused on performing and initiating activities related to physical education and health. Members are equipped with the knowledge and skills in conducting sports and dance clinics with support from the Institute of Human Kinetics. 

 

VSU LADIES FOOTBALL

Any female college student enrolled at VSU can join this group. Level of expertise and experience are not required. This club is open to all who are at the very least, interested in playing football. This is a club different from the VSU Football Varsity Team but we practice with them. No pressure. Just plain fun and a little competition. 

About

The Institute of Human Kinetics (IHK) has its beginnings in this institution as one of the many general courses under the College department of the then Visayas Agricultural College (VAC) in June 19, 1960. When the school was converted into a state college in May 24, 1974, it was considered as a section under the Department Of Arts and Letters. Later it became a separate department pursuant to Memorandum 33, series 1975 dated August 5, 1975 issued by Dr. Fernando A. Bernardo and with the appointment of the late Prof. Elmer A. Espina as the first Chairman of the department.

In year 2001, the Board of Regents approved the proposal of the Institute Human Kinetics during the 2nd BOR meeting held at the Leyte Normal University in Tacloban City. Through the years, the Institute of Human Kinetics has grown not only in quantity but quality. The institute expanded different programs able to meet the needs of the academe and the community at large for an active healthy lifestyle.

Mission

It strives to develop individuals committed to the pursuit of excellence in human movement studies who are able to translate into action concepts and values necessary to improve the quality of life.

Objectives

  1. Plans and Implement:
    • Academic degree programs for physical educators, dance, sports and leisure/recreation activity specialists
    • Service physical education program for all VSU undergraduate students who must earn eight (8) units of physical education as a prerequisite for graduation
    • Varsity Sports Program for highly skilled who wish to excel in sports and Intramural Program for all students who wish to experience athletic competition
    • Community Sports Program for the University
  2. Conduct research in physical education, health, sports dance, and leisure studies
  3. Provide technical expertise to agencies needing help in the promotion of physical education, health, sports, dance and recreation program
  4. Promote and preserve Philippine indigenous dances, games and sports

About

The Department of Science in Development Education (BSDE) had its birth with the conversion of the Visayas State College of Agriculture into the Leyte State University on August 11, 2001 by virtue of RA 9158.

The main objective of the department is to provide leadership in community development education with the use of the various strategies and cooperative linkages among the government and non-government institutions in the planning and implementation of rural development programs with the active and popular participation of stakeholders, the rural populace.

Vision

Leadership in the development of educational strategy in the individual who are endowed with the right values for the development of the community most especially the countryside.

Mission

Production of educationally equipped men and women in the area of community development and rural development management education for the attainment of progressive communities across all agro-ecological zones.

Goals

  1. Supply manpower to help the farming populace improve their productivity through technical and development education.
  2. Produce graduates both baccalaureates and advanced degrees with high level of expertise in mobilizing communities for rural development initiative.
  3. Assist the local government units and local groups within its service area in the planning and implementation of community and rural development programs through instruction, research and extension.

General Objectives:

  1. To provide leadership in community development education in the region and to the nation.
  2. To develop community and rural development strategies and extension methodologies relevant to the development needs of the region as well as the entire country.
  3. To build structure for collaborative and cooperative linkages among the regional and national institution in the field of education and rural development in the planning and implementation of rural development programs with the active participation of the rural populace.

Develop and produce component professionals to undertake research, extension, educational and entrepreneurial programs.

Goals

  1. Provide quality pre-and in-service trainings for teachers, community development workers, hotel, restaurant, and tourism managers and technologists;
  2. Generate appropriate knowledge and technologies in education, community development, and family and consumer sciences;
  3. Improve peoples' well being at LSU's service areas by conducting extension programs;
  4. Generate additional income to support college projects and activities.

Objectives

  1. Produce graduates who-
    • are employed in the job they are trained for
    • can pass the professional exam
  2. Generate knowledge/information on relevant areas in education and related fields.
  3. Enhance knowledge and skills, and develop desirable values among the intended clienteles.
  4. Prepare instructional materials, improve existing facilities and provide technical services for income generation.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the Visayas State University (VSU) started when it was offered as a Ladderized Program on June 2007. On December 2007, the Department of Nursing Skills Laboratory and Lecture rooms were inaugurated.

To gain full recognition of the ladderized program, TESDA has accredited and recognized the two Vocational Programs (TechVoc), namely: Nursing Assistant and Caregiver. Thus, the student could have Certificate of Nursing Assistant and after two years of the taking the program upon passing TESDA examination.

On October 29, 2009, the VSU Board of Regents approved the creation of the College of Nursing. Facilities are continuously being transferred to support the changing needs of a college that aims to provide education excellence. Partnerships with clinical agencies, community organizations, Government and non-government organizations are being forged to provide outstanding generalist Nursing Educations.

In November 1974, the Department of Economics was created by the first Board of Trustees of the then Visayas State College of Agriculture (ViSCA). It was once named as the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness under the College of Agriculture. Over the years, the department has continued to provide the needed economics and agricultural economics expertise in the university and its clienteles.

Attainment of high quality manpower resources and scientific knowledge in economics and agricultural economics needed for sustained growth and development of agriculture and allied fields.

Goals

  1. Produce highly competent manpower in economics and agricultural economics to serve the development needs of the region;
  2. Conduct economic analysis and assessment of various technologies, programs, and projects to enhance the transfer of agro-industrial technologies for sustainable development;
  3. Assist and promote awareness and policy advocacy on relevant socio-economics issues;
  4. Promote sustainable development-oriented and viable income-generating projects as models for instruction and income generation; and
  5. Strengthen the physical and manpower capability of the unit for efficient and effective delivery of instruction, research, extension, and income generation activities.
