The ground floor of the new library building will house the circulation section, which is the main public service point for lending books and other reading materials.
The biggest library in Eastern Visayas is now fully operational after completing all civil works on the ground floor of this new building.
Engr. Mario Lilio P. Valenzona, VSU Physical Plant Director, reported this development to President Edgardo E. Tulin in an ocular visit held recently to monitor ongoing and completed infrastructure projects within the Main Campus.
Engr. Valenzona explained during the inspection that they will soon install an elevator to ensure ease of mobility within the three-storey library building.
VSU Chief Librarian Mr. Vicente A. Gilos said that the university has also purchased new fixtures, along with additional steel-type bookshelves, to complete the project.
Part of the university’s plan is to construct a concrete parking space in front of the building and provide a nook inside to house a small coffee shop, Mr. Gilos revealed.

VSU President Edgardo E. Tulin expressed his commitment to bring in more investments for the VSU Library to make it at par with state-of-the-art libraries abroad.
“Our intention is to make our University Library a one-stop learning commons where our students can do their individual research while providing a conducive space for student collaboration to spark both curiosity and creativity,” Dr. Tulin said.
Planning and construction of the new library started during the term of former VSU President Jose L. Bacusmo as one of the legacy projects of his administration.
Aside from being the biggest library in Eastern Visayas, the VSU Library also boasts of the widest collection of printed books including an extensive online subscription for various scientific journals.
