A total of 44 strong athletes will represent the Visayas State University and the Eastern Visayas region in the 2018 edition of the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) National Games held in Sibalom, Antique from February 18 to 23, 2018.
Dr. Aleli A. Villocino, the Director of the Institute of Human Kinetic (IHK) and VSU Sports Director, confirmed that this is the biggest delegation sent by VSU to the national SCUAA in the past 33 years.
VSU ranked the overall second placer in final medal tally count in the SCUAA Regional Games held on December 9 to 14, 2017 at VSU Main Campus. Team VSU snatched 51 gold, 35 silver and 25 bronze medals which is just few medals short from this year’s overall winner and five-time defending champion, the Leyte Normal University (LNU).
This the biggest number of medals obtained by VSU in the regional SCUAA and the best overall performance of Team VSU in the past years.
This year, 17 teams all over the country will be competing in the biggest sporting event for state universities and colleges (SUCs). The competing teams include SUCs from Regions I to XII, ARMM, CAR, CARAGA, NCR and the Mindanao State University (MSU) System.
This year’s Region VIII delegation sums up to more than 400 athletes, teaming up to bring pride to Eastern Visayas. Region VIII ranked overall fourth place in the 2017 National SCUAA Games held in Batangas State University (BatSU). Last year’s medal standing of Region VIII is also a major leap from being the overall 12th placer in 2016.
The National SCUAA Games is one of the celebrations highlighting the golden anniversary of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC). This year’s theme is anchored on ‘PASUC @ 50: At the Forefront of Global Dynamics through Sports’.
Region I SUCs will be in-charge of facilitating the national tournaments while the University of Antique will be the host institution for the National SCUAA Games.
