VSU faculty, staff attain masters degrees through CHED scholarships

Some seven faculty and staff members of VSU have finished their graduate studies this year, thanks to the scholarship grants offered by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

The CHED scholarship had helped these individuals earn their Masters degrees in various fields including social studies, physical education, development communication, food science and technology, and tropical ecology.

 Niño Daryll Bicoy, a Master of Science graduate in Development Communication, said the CHED scholarship helped immensely not only in finishing his graduate studies, but also in providing him self-confidence as a practitioner.

“I am now confident to apply for jobs, because the job market now usually requires at least a Masters degree,” said Bicoy in Cebuano.

For Brayan Bornias, a Master of Science graduate in Food Science and Technology, the CHED scholarship gave him free access to online journals which helped him in his thesis.

Not only that, the thesis grant and monthly living allowances were more than sufficient for Bornias to complete his research.

Owing to his newly minted MS degree, Bornias received a lot of offerings from various universities in the country. Currently, the Food Technology graduate is serving the Department of Food Science and Technology at VSU.

Permanent faculty positions in state universities and colleges in the Philippines require at least a Masters degree.

CHED had sanctioned VSU as one of the delivering higher education institutions of scholarships for graduate studies. The scholarship grant is part of the K to 12 Enhanced Basic Education Program for faculty and staff from higher education institutions to earn graduate degrees during the K to 12 Transition period.
