About the Program
The BSA major in Agricultural Economics (BSA-AgEc) is handled by the Department of Economics (DOE), which is under the College of Management and Economics (CME). The college caters to the largest number of university students in VSU. The DOE produces highly competent graduates, well versed in the theory and practice of economics. It is home to accomplished faculty that is active in the university’s research and extension activities.
In 1975 when VSU was then the Visayas State College of Agriculture (ViSCA), the DOE was then the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness (DAEA). In 2001 when VISCA was transformed to LSU (Leyte State University), the two components of DAEA separated, creating the current Department of Economics (DOE) and the Department of Business and Management (DBM). When the College of Management and Economics (CME) was established in 2010, the DOE was moved from the College of Agriculture to CME.
