About the Program
In 1975, the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (BSA) program with majors in Agricultural Education and Associate in Agricultural Technology with majors in Agronomy and Animal Husbandry was first offered in Leyte National Agricultural College, now the VSU Villaba. In 1981-1982 the old curriculum was changed to Bachelor of Science in Agriculture major in Crop Science, Animal Science, Agricultural Education and Associate in Agricultural Technology, a ladderized curriculum to conform with the recommendation of the Technical Panel on Agricultural Education. In 2019, the majors were changed to Agronomy and Animal Science adopted from VSU Main Campus.
The program aims to educate students in the scientific habit of thought, entrepreneurial skills and prepare them to become professionals with entry level competencies in technical agriculture. It emphasizes the processes and techniques in identifying, diagnosing and analyzing problems and in designing, packaging and applying technologies needed in the development and conservation of the agriculture and food system resources.
The Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (BSA) Major in Animal Science is a 4-year curriculum under the College of Agricultural Sciences. This curriculum is currently an AACCUP Level II accredited program.
The program is offered by the Department of Animal Science under the College of Agricultural Sciences as approved by CHED CMO Order No. 14 Series of 2008. It aims to educate students in the scientific habit of thought, and prepare them to become professionals with entry level competencies in technical agriculture. The BSA Animal Science curriculum is based on competency standards for agriculture with a total number of units is 171 wherein the student must take all the General Education Courses, Core Courses, Fundamental Courses, Practicum, Thesis and On the Job Training.
