Building of VSU Tolosa’s classrooms, dorms inaugurated

A groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of the construction of the two three-story buildings at the VSU Tolosa campus, June 17.
The building of the US$ 4M-worth structures was made possible through the help of the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) which has been providing assistance to the university after the damages wrought by typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).
The ceremony commenced with the lowering of the time capsule by His Excellency Kim Jae-Shin, ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Philippines, Dr. Napoleon B. Imperial, Deputy Executive Director of CHED, Rep. Ranulfo Abellanosa, Board Member of the Province of Leyte, Hon. Erwin C. Ocaña, Tolosa Mayor, VSU Tolosa Dean Dr. Lourdes B. Cano and VSU President Dr. Edgardo Tulin.
Dr. Tulin regarded the ceremony as a momentous and historical event for VSU as well as its students and partners.
“…Not only does it mark the time where we as an institution starts to build back better, but also a [commencement] of a strong mutual friendship with the Korean government. This friendship is something that not only us who are here today will remember, but also for all the students who will finish in this university…and pursue their education here,” said Dr. Tulin.
Members of KOICA and Leyte Governor Mic L. Petilla graced the event.
The two buildings will house the administration offices, state-of-the-art classrooms, and dormitories. The construction is expected to be completed before the end of 2017.
