The Naval State University (NSU), represented by its Officer-In-Charge, Dr. Minerva E. Sañosa, and the Visayas State University (VSU), represented by its President, Dr. Jose L. Bacusmo, entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the development of NSU’s Food Science and Technology Research. The MOA was signed on July 1, 2015 at the VSU Guesthouse in the presence of Dr. Ludito V. Ramirez, NSU’s Director for Research Services, and Dr. Julie D. Tan, Professor of PhilRootcrops.
Acknowledging the VSU researchers/scientists’ expertise in food science and expressing willingness to provide assistance as consultants to NSU, the research collaboration would hopefully establish a food processing laboratory at NSU to improve its research outputs on food products development.
In the agreement, NSU shall shoulder the transportation and other incidental expenses to be incurred by the VSU experts/consultants in going to NSU and vice versa. They shall also designate a focal person to handle the food R&D program and closely work with the experts/consultants of VSU. NSU shall provide funding for the establishment of a food research laboratory and implement R&D on food science and technology.
VSU, on the other hand, shall provide experts/consultants to be led by Dr. Tan to NSU depending on the availability of their schedule. VSU shall also provide access to the laboratory facilities for the R&D activities of NSU. Further, VSU shall provide capability building activities for the R&D staff of NSU.
The MOA shall be valid within five years or upon the establishment of the food processing laboratory, whichever comes first. SMCLemos
