Fifty-four researchers received on March 6, 2015 rewards from the Visayas State University (VSU) for their published articles in local and international scientific journals and books from 2011 to 2013.
Aside from the certificates of publication accorded by the University, the researchers who published books and research articles in ISI-listed international journals were also given PhP25,000 cash incentives. A PhP10,000 check was given to those who authored chapters in internationally-published books, and PhP5,000 for book chapters published in the country. VSU researchers with articles published in non-ISI international journals received PhP7,000, and PhP5,000 was awarded for non-ISI national journal articles.
Eleven main authors were recipients of the highest incentive during the Awarding Ceremonies at the PhilRootcrops Training Hall. These authors have published in journals, such as The Philippine Journal of Crop Science, Journal of Natural Fibers, Small-Scale Forestry, Elsevier-published Industrial Crops and Products, The Asia-Pacific Education Research, among other journals. Some of these researches have impact factor rating up to 3. Impact factor reflects the average number of citations to the articles published in a journal.
In his keynote speech, Dr. Edgardo E. Tulin, VP for Instruction and 2014 Presidential Lingkod Bayan Awardee for his research accomplishments, said “While the publication incentive provides motivation to researchers, the ultimate purpose of which is to encourage sharing with people who need the results.” The Vice President for Instruction challenged the researchers to be more competitive especially with the ASEAN integration in the pipeline. Tulin also said that this amount of published articles is a huge leap from the number of publications in the previous years in VSU. - Ella Lois T. Bestil/OVPRE
