AACCUP conducts 4 survey visit to BSAB and BAS programs, revisits education and master's programs

BAYBAY CITY, Leyte — The Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines, Inc. (AACCUP) with Dr. Divinagracia M. De Guzman as Overall Coordinator, together with the other seven accreditors—Prof. Alberto M. Cabrera, Dr. Charlito P. Cadag, Prof. Aida L. Dela Cerna, Dr. Celeste V. Francia, Dr. Lydia P. Libunao, Dr. Henry A. Mabesa, Jr., and Dr. Luz P. Napoles—conducted on November 24-29, 2014 the 4th Survey Visit (Phase I) to the Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness (BSAB) and the Bachelor of Animal Science (BAS) programs of VSU.

The group also revisited the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) – Area 3 [Curriculum and Instruction] and Area 5 [Research], and the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) – Area 2 [Faculty], Area 3 [Curriculum and Instruction], and Area 5 [Research], as well as the MS Agriculture/MAgDev Agriculture – Area 4 [Support to Students] and MS Education/MAgDev Education – Area 4 [Support to Students] as recommended by the AACCUP accreditors when the programs were submitted for Level 4 Accreditation (Phase I) last September 10-14, 2012. It can be recalled that the above programs got an Excellent ratings, except for the Secondary Teacher Education which got a Very Good rating, and need for revisit in the different areas to meet the minimum requirement, as noted by the accreditors, before the programs can be awarded with "Qualified for Level IV" by the AACCUP.

As announced by the AACCUP, "Level IV Re-Accredited Status" is only awarded to academic programs which are highly respected and very high quality programs in the Philippines with prestige and authority comparable to similar programs in excellent foreign universities.

The accreditors scrutinized the voluminous documents prepared by the local counterparts in the different programs that were subjected for Level IV accreditation. They also observed classes, visited the different facilities, conducted interviews with various stakeholders, and visited the research and extension sites of the said programs.

The criteria set to pass and qualify for this Level must have a minimum grand mean of 4.50 with 5.00 as the maximum and a minimum area mean of 4.00.—vsu.edu.ph
