Miss Ea Kristine B. Tulin, a freshman BS Chemistry student and Corps Sponsor of the VSU ROTC Unit for SY 2011-2012 who represented the Eighth Regional Community Defense Group (8RCDG), was proclaimed 1st Runner Up in the Search for Miss Philippine Army (PA) Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Centennial.

The beauty-and-brains tilt was held on March 9, 2012 at the Philippine Army Officers Clubhouse in Fort Andres Bonifacio, Metro Manila as one of the highlights of the Centennial Foundation of the ROTC to recognize and underline the ROTC's invaluable contribution to the national defense and nation-building since its establishment in March 2012 at the University of the Philippines.

Miss Tulin bested other 12 candidates who represented the different RCDGs throughout the country. She wittily explained her opinion to the pictures shown through the LCD projector during the question and answer portion of the contest. The questions were extracted based on the theme "ROTC Centennial, 100 years of Molding Leaders from Among Our Youth in Nation-Building and in the Defense of the Motherland."

The Search for Miss PA ROTC Centennial and the awarding of the 100 Outstanding ROTC Alumni were held during the "Gabi ng Parangal".

Year 2012 has been declared as the ROTC Centennial Year and the 1st week of March of every year as ROTC Week per Presidential Executive Order. The AFP, through the AFP Reserve Command (AFPRESCOM) and the Major Service RESCOMs in coordination with the respective ROTC units, cadets, and alumni, and other stakeholders, identified activities that may be undertaken nation-wide such as bloodletting, tree planting, river/coastal clean-up, medical/dental civic action programs, and many more.
