VSU Tolosa formalized its growing academic ties with Kagoshima University Faculty of Fisheries (KUFF), Japan, through the exchange of a Joint Declaration of Cooperation and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) held on March 11, 2025.

The signing signals a broader engagement between the two institutions in the areas of research, student and faculty exchange, and academic development.

KUFF was represented by Associate Professor Munechika Ishizaki, while VSU was represented by University President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes, VSU Tolosa Chancellor Dr. Quenstein D. Lauzon, and the Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences Assistant Professor Rizalyn P. Gonzales.

In her message, Dr. Lauzon acknowledged KUFF’s ongoing relationship with VSU Tolosa and expressed optimism about how both institutions can benefit from his academic link.

“I would like to extend my sincere gratitude and appreciation to Kagoshima University Faculty of Fisheries for their collaboration with VSU Tolosa. Our partnership can make a lasting impact on student exchange, faculty and staff development, research, and community engagement,” Dr. Lauzon said.

The connection between VSU Tolosa and KUFF began in 2021 through a letter of agreement. Since then, the partnership has developed to include a range of academic and research activities, including joint studies, training opportunities, and student exchanges.

With this newly signed agreement, VSU Tolosa will gain access to KUFF’s advanced research in fisheries and aquaculture, while also opening doors for its faculty and students to engage in knowledge-sharing efforts.

Focus areas will include sustainable aquaculture practices, marine resource conversation, and strategies for addressing climate-related challenges in coastal communities.

This initiative is for VSU Tolosa to build meaningful international linkages that enhance its academic programs and research capacity.
