VSU’s former Department of Liberal Arts and Behavioral Sciences (DLABS) building has been identified as a priority infrastructure project to undergo massive rehabilitation.

Built in 1978, the building now houses the Department of  Arts, Languages, and Literature (DALL) and the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences (DPSS).

This facility, which serves thousands of students per semester, will soon be renovated after 47 years of continuous use, to provide a more conducive learning environment.

The renovation will run from April to August 2025, with a total budget of Php 8,000,000 charged to VSU’s income. The project will enhance the PWD ramp, add a designated parking area, and repair the auditorium, including its doors, windows, and roof slabs.

In addition, major renovation activities are laid out for the entire classrooms and  faculty rooms. These include the removal and replacement of all doors and windows. Deep cleaning of all exterior walls, waterproofing of entire roof systems, painting on all interior walls, and complete rewiring of the entire electrical system.

Beautification of comfort rooms is also given priority, including the partition of toilet using plywood core melamine boards with aluminum hardware, installation of  full length mirrors on all lavatories, installation of one-piece water closet with bidet and PWD toilet accessories, and reworking of ceiling.

The General Services Office (GENSO) is currently drafting an implementation plan to ensure smooth execution of the renovation project. It will outline key timelines, construction phases, and safety measures.

According to Engr. Marlon G. Burlas, GENSO Director, the renovation will be carried out in phases to minimize the disruption to classes and regular office operations. He also assured that necessary safety measures will be in place for the well-being of the students, faculty, and staff throughout the construction period.

The VSU administration, through GENSO, have already made discussions with the Department Heads of DALL and DPSS for the arrangement of classes when the renovation takes place.
