VSU recognizes the contributions of its human resource

The Visayas State University gave awards to deserving individuals and institutions in recognition of their contributions to the development of the University. This was done during the 88th Anniversary Convocation which was held on August 11, 2012 at the VSU Gymnatorium.
The Sandigan Award Individual Category was presented to Dr. John Herbohn of the University of Queensland, St. Lucia, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia for his significant contributions to the research and development program of VSU since year 2000.
The Sandigan Award Institutional Category was presented to the Faculty of Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology of the Georg-August-Universität, Gőettingen, Germany for the faculty's contribution to the continuous staff development of the faculty of the College of Forestry and Environmental Sciences (CFES) and the Department of Agronomy and Soil Science (DASS) of VSU.
Mr. Bernardo H. Tocmo was also awarded the Outstanding Alumnus Award for bringing prestige and honor to VSU being the Senior Executive Vice President of Metropolitan Banking Corporation (Metrobank), one of the leading banking institutions of the country.
Mrs. Anita Toledo-Sabijon of Barangay Pangasugan, Baybay City, Leyte, on the other hand, was awarded the Mother of the Year for having shown her trust and confidence in VSU by sending her nine children to study in the said institution, one of whom graduated with Latin Honors (Cum Laude).
Dr. Anabella B. Tulin of PhilRootcrops received the Exemplary Academician Award in recognition of her outstanding performance in instruction, research and extension and exemplary performance in administration.
Ms. Ma. Helen P. Seco of the National Abaca Research Center (NARC) also received the Model Administrative Assistant Award for her outstanding job performance.
On the other hand, Dr. Paciencia P. Milan, first and only president of the Leyte State University (LSU) and first president of VSU, was the recipient of the Mt. Pangasugan Award because of her 37 years of faithful and dedicated service and outstanding contributions to the development of VSU. The yearly tree planting activities that she spearheaded every May since 1989 led to the recognition of VSU as one of the three "Dark Green Campuses" throughout the country.
Three other retirees, likewise, received the Mt. Pangasugan Award—Ms. Rebecca B. Napiere, for her 41 years of faithful and dedicated service to VSU; Dr. Sixto P. Sandoval for his 37 years of faithful and dedicated service; and Dr. Justiniano L. Seroy for his more than 36 years of faithful and dedicated service to VSU.
Finally, 22 faculty and staff of VSU were presented with the Service Award after retiring from service in the University. These include Lolita L. Aure, 43 years; Rolando F. Bacalso, 36 years; Alberto P. Bagarinao, 35 years; Siegfredo M. Bande, 33 years; Francisco L. Camoying, 10 years; Remedios L. Capacio, 31 years; Lorenza P. de Pedro, 37 years; Engr. Roque C. de Pedro Jr., 37 years; Zenaida C. Dumaguing, 30 years; Benedicto S. Godoy, 33 years (posthumous); Venerando B. Jose, 28 years; Dominador A. Lauzon, 37 years; Eduardo T. Lerios, 8 years; Desiderio A. Lomongo, 36 years; Jovito P. Magnawa, 29 years (posthumous); Abdon G. Malnegro, 24 years; Dionesio P. Managbanag, 27 years; Benifredo B. Pelicano, 30 years; Orlando G. Piamonte, 37 years; Marcial A. Romo, 36 years; Ramon V. Tuyan, 30 years; and Carlos B. Valenzona, 36 years.
