Doing a feasibility study is easier and more convenient with the Bytex Feasibility Analyzer, a software developed by VSU Agricultural Engineering Professor Arthur It. Tambong.
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is now the second government agency to partner with the VSU Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (DABE) for a training program that will use this computer software to analyze the practicality of a proposed project or business.
A total of 84 registered participants from various BFAR offices were trained on the use and applications of Bytex Feasibility Analyzer from February 16-18, 22-26, with a post-training assessment on March 1-5, 2021.
Recently, several laws were created to develop a number of hatcheries spread across the country to be administered and monitored by BFAR. The creation of these hatcheries requires an extensive feasibility study before its actual implementation.
This paves the way for the use of the Bytex Feasibility Analyzer to ensure that the feasibility studies for hatcheries that will be implemented by BFAR will comply with the International Accounting Standards (IAS) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
A 24-year-old tried and tested app
It took two years for Prof. Tambong to develop the first working prototype of the Bytex Feasibility Analyzer. He officially launched this computer software in 1997 as a result of his training with the World Bank from 1994 to 1995.
Currently, this app is now 24 years old and has been updated several times with version 5.18 as its latest release.
According to Prof. Tambong, doing a feasibility study without the help of a software is a very tedious task. The Bytex Feasibility Analyzer addresses this concern to make it easier for government and private institutions to conduct a feasibility study.
Professor Arthur Tambong delivers his lecture with 84 BFAR staff on the use of the Bytex Feasibility Analyzer.
“The mechanical and manual ways of doing a feasibility study are subject to a lot of errors. Our software solves that problem because of three things—speed, accuracy, and convenience,” says the app developer.
Back in the 90s, a lot of people asked the help of Professor Tambong to do feasibility studies. Since doing this job is very time-consuming, he came up with the idea of making a software that will simplify this process which gave birth to the Bytex Feasibility Analyzer.
From 2010 to 2016, the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) used the software during its series of training for slaughterhouse feasibility study making. The Bureau of Agricultural and Fisheries Engineering (BAFE) was the second government agency to officially adopt this computer software in September 2020 and the first to partner with DABE for the conduct of a training series (see full story here).
With their plan to establish several multi-species marine hatcheries all over the Philippines, BFAR adopts the Bytex Feasibility Analyzer by partnering with DABE. An estimated 30 million pesos is allotted for the creation of each of these hatcheries so using this software will ensure its future profitability and sustainability.
Another batch of trainees from BAFE are expected to be trained this June 2021.
Prof. Tambong envisions that his app will be used by more government agencies in the future. You can download this software for free by clicking here. An initial 20-calculation load is given for free while the succeeding software load is only charged 40 pesos per calculation. This is a minimal charge compared to the feasibility study preparation charge which is normally 5 percent of the project cost.
