VSU students champ tourism skill competition

Visayas State University students from the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management (DTHM) was declared as the overall champion in the Inter-school Tourism Skills Competition during the World Tourism Day at Southern Leyte State University in Sogod, Southern Leyte on October 30, 2019.
Anchored on the theme: “Tourism and Jobs: A Better Future for All”, the competition was participated in by seven different state colleges and universities, including private higher education institutions in Eastern Visayas that offer BS in Hotel Management and BS in Tourism Management.
Team VSU bagged first place in three different categories earning them the championship title.
Colleen Kaye Negad, Joy Elaine Sandtorv, and Juliliah Marie placed first in Tourism Quiz Bee; Jessa Monica Buenafe and Christille Madera in Travel and Tour Sales Blitz; and Jewel Louie Tolibas, and Blanche Claudette Debonaire in Tour Guiding.
Prof. Venice B. Ibañez, the Head of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management (DTHM) congratulated the students for taking home all the major awards in the said competition.
“This is such a great news for us in DTHM because this is a proof of the quality of instruction we provide to our students. I am personally hoping that our students will continue to excel in other competitions including national events so that we can bring more pride and honor to our dear VSU in the future”, said Prof Ibañez.
The team received plaques and certificates as awards for winning the competition.
