Ormoc, Baybay businessmen to promote VSU-ViCARP’s agri, food tech business incubator program

Visayas State University and the homegrown Visayas Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Program (ViCARP) inked a partnership with the Baybay and Ormoc Chambers of Commerce and Industry to help promote the Agriculture and Food Technology Business Incubator (AFTBI) program.
The partnership aims to promote the Incubator’s programs and services, specifically on the recruitment of incubatees and in the conduct of training/mentoring of startups of technology-based businesses.
The MOA signing was held at the AFTBI building based at VSU on July 29, 2019.
A technology business incubator or TBI is a facility and a program that provides a nurturing environment for commercialization of technology-based startups/businesses for them to succeed.
The Agriculture and Food TBI in VSU is designed to fast track the translation of technologies developed by the university and other research institutes in the region into commercial product in the market.
It is VSU and ViCARP’s vision of the future: TBI as system and structure that extends from technology generation to technology commercialization and a setup that fosters relevant research/innovation and real life learning.
Dr. Edgardo E. Tulin, VSU President and Regional Research and Development Coordinating Council Chairperson of VICARP, emphasized in his message the relevance of the involvement of consortium in the inked agreement.
"You do not only get the best of VSU in this partnership but also the technology of Eastern Visayas,”Tulin stressed.
Dr. Jose L. Bacusmo, former VSU President and currently the university’s Director for Research, shared that this is the first time that VSU is engaged and partnered with industries.
“Conducting research before was mainly to improve the instruction, later on, it aimed to contribute to the body of knowledge. But nowadays, it aimed to contribute impact to the society”, Bacusmo added.
The signing was attended by Edgardo E. Tulin, VSU President; Mr. Nestor C. Sy, Jr., President of Baybay Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Mr. Jude P. Abenoja, President of Ormoc Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Dr. Othello B. Capuno, VP for Research and Extension; Dr. Jose L. Bacusmo, Director for Research; and Alan B. Loreto, Project Leader and other technology generators in VSU.
