Viscans bag awards in nat’l geodetic eng’ng student conference

Mr. Feljun D. Sagliba, fifth year geodetic engineering student of Visayas State University, won the Best Research and Best Presenter awards during the Geodetic Engineering Student Conference (GESC) held at DMC Theater, UP Diliman, Quezon City on April 8-9.
Sagliba’s study was about the automation in computing longer formulas such as solar computations and coordinate conversion (PRS92 to WGS84) using GUI driven interface developed from python programming language, under the advisory of Engr. Eulalio C. Colubio, bested two other entries.
Team VSU, composed of Jan Ross Y. Cormanes, Jeith Pons S. Tutor, and Phil Jan E. Seron bagged the 1st runner up in the “Quiz Show: GEKNB?”
Among the 13 participating schools, the University of Saint Louis - Tuguegarao emerged as champion and the Manuel S. Enverga University as 2nd runner up.
GESC is an annual and the biggest gathering of GE students from all over the country. The event was designed to provide a venue for discussion about re-emerging and latest trends and breakthroughs in the profession to address issues in the present times.
Now in its eleventh year, GESC 2019 was anchored on the theme, “VANTAGE: Foresighting Greater Paths Through Geodetic Engineering” and held to introduce GE students into research, academe, and corporate world.
The event, hosted by the UP Geodetic Engineering Club of the University of the Philippines – Diliman, included talks from the representatives of private and government firms as well as research development organizations which encouraged students and open more opportunities related to the geodetic engineering fields.
VSU sent a total of 30 BSGE students to the conference, along with faculty members Engr. Eulalio C. Colubio, Jr. and Engr. Glenda Loraine S. Sobrio.
