VSU President Edgardo E. Tulin is among the recipients of the 2019 Ten Outstanding Movers of the Philippines (TOMP), Champion of Life and Hero of the Environment Award. Dr. Tulin qualified for this award after being nominated by another state university President outside of Eastern Visayas.
The TOMP recognizes the selfless and exemplary contribution of Filipinos in the pursuit of making the world a safe, secured, peaceful, orderly, prosperous and meaningful to live.
The national award hopes to inspire and motivate prime movers in the whole country to proactively engage in activities that address issues concerning the environment. Also, TOMP seeks to identify role models who will serve as inspiration to young people and leaders in all human endeavors to help in making the planet a sustainable place to live in.
The Students’ Actions Vital to the Environment and Mother Earth Movement (SAVE ME), Inc., is the awarding organization of the TOMP. It endeavors to make communities disaster risk resilient and climate change adapted.
The SAVE ME Movement endeavors to engage in programs on environmental education and communication, community-based disaster risk management, climate change adaptation capacity and capacity building, leadership development for government institutions and student/youth leaders, and in nationalization and internationalization of the programs of the movement. It was a recipient of the first Ten Accomplished Youth Organization Award in 2003 and an official partner of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) on student development programs.
This will be the 8th TOMP awarding ceremony, since the organization’s founding in 1996. Among the notable figures accorded this award is GMA veteran news anchor Arnold Clavio in 2018, for his works in media and communications.
Tulin is set to receive the prestigious award at the Malacañan Palace on February 28, 2019, with nine others including veteran broadcast-journalist Jessica Soho and singer-composer Joey Ayala.
Tulin is a recipient of national recognitions including the 2018 Outstanding Research Administrator Award by the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) and the 2014 Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award, the highest public service commendation given to government employees in the country.
