During the coronation night, the crowns of the 2012 Alumni King and Queen were formally turned-over by Dr. Joel Bandibas and Dr. Alma Castañares-Joglekar to the 2013 Alumni King and Queen, Mr. Nicolas Aloysius R. Warque and Ms. Zarah Gayrama-Borines.
Other winners included: Mr. Eusebio Olleras and Ms. Elsie Estrada-Salamat, First Runner Up; and Mr. Romeo Belarmino and Ms. Anacorita Villar-Belarmino, Second Runner Up.
Moreover, during the Alumni Night, Mr. Bernie Tocmo (Batch '78) and Ms. Zarah Gayrama-Borines (Batch '87) danced a curacha number and raised P31,305; while Hon. Loreto Yu (Batch '81) and Ms. Imelda Sacay-Berndt (Batch '84) raised P12,502 and $1 US-dollar for a total of P43,809.
According to this year's host batches, 1986 and 1987, all of these funds will go to the "Tabang Mo, Kaugmaon Ko" Scholarship Program of the Visayas State University Alumni Association, Incorporated (VSUAAI).
Dr. Edgardo Tulin, President of the VSUAAI and Vice President for Planning and Resource Generation of VSU, was pleased to hear this because, according to him, 14 scholars had already graduated under the "Tabang Mo, Kaugmaon Ko" Scholarship Program of the VSUAAI but three of them enjoyed the scholarship for only two years.
Dr. Tulin also revealed that the association did not have a scholar last year due to lack of sufficient funds for a four-year course. "We plan to have 2-3 scholars for school year 2013-2014, thus we welcome donations from the alumni," added Dr. Tulin.
The VSU Alumni President also revealed that the association was able to solicit US$1000 from Engr. Jojo Mirambel, but the latter said that the said amount shall be used only for the benefit of the engineering students of VSU.
On the other hand, through the efforts of the Alumni and Community Relations Office (ACRO), paintings of the members of the "Hugpong Sabado", a group of local artists, are currently displayed at the Alumni Heritage House for sale and part of the proceeds will go to the scholarship fund. Moreover, ACRO is currently selling souvenir items such as t-shirts, sweat shirts, jackets, caps, umbrellas and others to help restore the Alumni Canteen.
