BAYBAY CITY, Leyte -The VSU Culture and the Arts Center headed by Prof. Jesusito L. Lim, through the different performing arts groups of the University, entertained the townspeople of Baybay City during the “VSU Night in Baybay City” on December 14, 2014.

In his message before the opening salvo of the variety show, Dr. Jose L. Bacusmo, VSU President, said that the show is VSU’s way of expressing its support to the different activities initiated by the local governments unit of Baybay City, especially in this yuletide season, and at the same time in the observance of the annual fiesta celebration of the city.

On the other hand, Baybay City Mayor Carmen L. Cari, whose message was read by the City Councilor Leoncio Asilom, conveyed her deepest appreciation to the VSU administration for sparing time to entertain the people of Baybay City which is being looked forward to by her constituents.  The City Mayor also acknowledged the full support extended by the University to whatever technical assistance her administration requested from VSU.

The show kicked-off with a dance drama that depicted the modern repertoire of the recent typhoons and other calamities that somehow partially agitated Baybay City, but tremendously devastated some parts of Eastern Visayas, showing how the people fought for survival against the forces of nature.  Moreover, the dance drama simply showcased the prayerful instinct of Filipinos built upon a profound love of God, unshakeable faith, exemplary spirit of voluntarism and togetherness or “Bayanihan”, remarkable empathy, outpouring generosity and kindness, and above all, a celebration of life through dance and music.

The performances of some selected VSU students, faculty and staff nailed the audience in awe and captivated their hearts as they show their prowess in singing, dancing, and even in playing musical instruments.

The two-hour variety show directed by Mr. Jovel Aberilla featured the talents of the pupils from the ViSCA Foundation Elementary School, high school students from the VSU Laboratory High School, the students from the different colleges of the University Main Campus, and some faculty and staff of the University. -vsu.edu.ph
