VSU to chair guild of asian agri schools

The Tokyo University of Agriculture (TUA) relinquished the key of responsibility in the Asian Association of Agricultural Colleges and Universities (AAACU) to VSU, October 14, during AAACU’s 21st Biennial Conference and General Assembly in Japan.

VSU President Dr. Edgardo E. Tulin received the symbolic key in a turn-over ceremony at TUA to serve as President of AAACU starting this year until 2018.

VSU will also host the 22nd AAACU Conference in 2018. This year, the conference was hosted by TUA in Kanagawa, Japan, with the theme, Towards a sustainable world: The challenges of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) for AAACU in the next decade.

The conference sought to “provide a unique opportunity to look at how the SDGs as a global trend will shape the landscape of higher education in the Asian Region in the next decade,” said the Japan Intellectual Support Network in Agricultural Sciences (JISNAS) website. It also aimed to get insights into the ways AAACU member-institutions have been addressing such a global call.

Established in 1972, AAACU is a union that believes in the responsibility of institutions of higher education to “contribute to the improvement of human condition,” said JISNAS website. AAACU focuses on exchanging and sharing experiences among members in enhancing the effectiveness of agricultural research and extension programs among its members.

In 2012, former VSU President Dr. Jose L. Bacusmo was elected as AAACU’s second vice president during the 19th Biennial Conference at the Seoul National University in Korea.
