Civil Service Commission Regional Office VIII Director II Pharida Q. Aurelia shared PIES, an acronym for four civil service values, to VSU during the culmination of the month-long celebration of the 116th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary, September 30, at the VSU Gymnasium.
“PIES: Performance, Integrity, Excellence, Spirituality. Remember these values in public service,” said Dir. Aurelia during the awarding ceremonies for employees who served VSU for at least ten years.
Performance
Dir. Aurelia encouraged VSU employees to not only perform mediocre tasks but to practice excellence in their jobs.
“Whether you’re the school president or the security guard, you have to give it your best,” said Dir. Aurelia.
Integrity
Dir. Aurelia also reminded the faculty and staff to practice truthfulness in their work and personal lives. “Unquestionable honesty,” she said, is one of the values of a good public servant.
Excellence
“Pursue excellence day to day,” Dir. Aurelio advised.
Spirituality
This value summarizes this year’s theme, Sigaw ng Lingkod Bayani: Malasakit para sa taumbayan, kapwa kawani, at kalikasan, Dir. Aurelio said. Malasakit is the Filipino word for compassion. Having compassion for the public and the environment, she said, is a value that every employee must observe.
Some 90 VSU employees were given Loyalty Awards for ten to 40 years of continuous service to the university.
The culmination activity commenced with a Fun Run/Walk from the VSU Ecopark to the Gymnasium.
