VSU confers certificates to 114 last batch of high school graduates not affected with the K-12 curriculum
A total of 114 fourth year high school students of the VSU Laboratory High School (VSULHS) were conferred graduates in the secondary level curriculum by the VSU President Jose L. Bacusmo during the 85th VSU Laboratory High School Commencement Exercises in the afternoon of April 7, 2015 at the VSU Gymnatorium. Miss Thich Eloise P. Paris, Class Valedictorian, led the last batch of high school graduates who were not affected with the implementation of the K-12 curriculum in receiving their diplomas. The certificates were distributed by Dr. Edgardo E. Tulin, VP for Instruction, for and on behalf of VSU President Bacusmo.

The papers of some VSU researchers bagged the major awards during the 26th Joint ViCARP-RRDEN Regional RDE Symposium held on March 17-18, 2015 at the VSU Convention Hall.
In the Search for the Outstanding RDE Project (Research Category), the paper of Dr. Fe M. Gabunada entitled “Supply Chain Improvement of Donkey’s Ear Abalone (Haliotis asinina) in Eastern Visayas” was declared winner among the other eight best papers that were shortlisted for the competition. The paper of Dr. Gabunada and her colleagues: Alice Prieto-Carolino,Rowena Paz L. Gelvezon,Hanny John P. Mediodia, Ana Liza B. Recto, Fatima Roseli J. Sosmeña, and Cherry Pilapil-Añasco received a cash award of PhP10,000 and a plaque of recognition from the organizers—the Visayas Consortium for Agriculture and Resources Program (ViCARP) and the Regional Research, Development and Extensions Network (RRDEN). As the regional winner, ViCARP shall endorse the paper to PCAARRD to compete in the National Symposium on Agriculture and Resources Research and Development (NSARRD).

In celebration of the National Women’s Month, the Visayas State University – Villaba Campus organized on March 5, 2015 an awareness campaign for students, faculty and staff entitled “Young and Pregnant: Facts and Fallacies,” a seminar on teenage pregnancy and HIV. The seminar was facilitated by Dr. Gloria R. Pelayo, Head of Academic Services and GAD Coordinator; Mr. Vicente A. Cordero, Guidance Counselor; and Ms. Jolly Conversion D. Marquez, School Nurse.

The Visayas State University (VSU), through the University Student Services Office (USSO) headed by Engr. Manolo B. Loreto, Jr., Dean of Students, hosted the Regional Expanded Students’ Grants-in-Aid Program for Poverty Alleviation (ESGP-PA) Committee Meeting on March 9, 2015 at the VSU Center for Continuing Education. A total of 24 members of the Regional Scholarship Committee and Scholarship Coordinators from the different state universities and colleges (SUCs) and line agencies of Region 8 attended the said meeting and tackled the following agenda: status of submission of ESGP-PA reports, summer program, updates from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and issues and concerns of SUCs.

The University Supreme Student Council (USSC) with the leadership of Miss Claire Larzen Z. Tello, USSC President, conducted the First T.I.M.E. Congress on March 6-7, 2015 at the VSU Center for Continuing Education and at the VSU Garden Beach Resort. The Congress is the University-wide leadership camp for the budding student-leaders of the Visayas State University System which focused on the four areas: Train, Initiate, Manage, and Explore (T.I.M.E.).

The Visayas State University, being proud of the achievements of its graduates who would inspire the honorees and awardees, had invited the Chief Executive of Mandaue City, Honorable Jonas C. Cortes, as the guest of honor and speaker during the Honors and Awards Convocation Program in the afternoon of March 3, 2015 at the VSU Gymnatorium. Mayor Cortes earned his Bachelor of Animal Science (BAS) degree in 1987 from the then Visayas State College of Agriculture (ViSCA), now VSU.
