The Visayas State University (VSU) has been identified as one of the places included during the grand summer launching of the destinations in Leyte dubbed as “Pasyada ha Leyte 2015” (Leisure Trip in Leyte 2015). The activities were held on April 27-30, 2015 in the different tourist destinations in Leyte spearheaded by the Provincial Government of Leyte, together with the Department of Tourism Regional Office No. 8 (DOT-8).
According to Ms. Jescyn Kate Ramos, Officer-In-Charge of the Leyte Tourism and Investment Promotion Center, the Grand Summer Launching is a tourism campaign to encourage local and national tourists to explore the province which is on its path to recovery after the onslaught of the Super Typhoon Yolanda, believing that tourism is a good economic tool to uplift income in the country. It also aims to bring Leyte into the forefront of DOT-led program “VISIT THE PHILIPPINES 2015”.
Invited participants to the Grand Summer Launching were selected operators and editors of Travel and Leisure page of major dailies from Manila, Cebu and Eastern Visayas; television outfits with travel programs; and the DOT Tourism Promotions Board.
At VSU, the group was warmly welcomed by its President, Dr. Jose L. Bacusmo, during the welcome dinner/socials sponsored by the City Government of Baybay. The group also had a guided tour in the morning of April 30, 2015 with Mr. Jesus Freddy M. Baldos and Ms. Sheila Marie C. Lemos of the Information Office, as tour guides. They were briefed on the different programs of the University and had a glimpse of various research facilities. They also bought some souvenir items including food products from the store of the PCC@VSU-assisted Baybay Dairy Farmers’ Association. JFMBaldos
