Two first-year students of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) from VSU Alangalang placed among the top contenders in the SIKAPTala 2025: National CS and IT Competition-Collegiate Quiz Bee held online on March 28, 2025.

Hosted by De La Salle University-Dasmariñas, the quiz bee brought together students from across the country to compete in a fast-paced challenge focused on Computer Science and Information Technology.

Out of 154 participants, Mark Francis Denola landed in 6th place, while Lyka Crishelle T. Arpon finished in 10th place.

The competition required participants to answer a series of time-bound multiple-choice and problem-solving questions using a centralized online platform. The quiz ran for four hours.

For VSU Alangalang, 63 first-year BSIT students joined the event. To help them stay focused, they were excused from regular classes during the competition and were stationed at the computer laboratory.

Faculty members from the Department of Information Technology (DIT), along with student officers, provided technical support and closely monitored the activity. The campus made sure that all participants had access to a stable internet connection and functioning workstations to help them perform well.

Activities like this not only challenge students to apply what they have learned but also give them the chance to build confidence, sharpen their skills, and gain national exposure.

SIKAPTala, short for Sibil ng Kaalaman at Paglilinang sa Teknolohiya at Agham, is an annual quiz competition that promotes excellence among students in the field of computer science and information technology. It continues to serve as a platform for discovering young talents and encouraging academic growth in the field of technology.
