NGESxGESC 2024

#ProudViscans from the Department of Geodetic Engineering (DGE) brought two national awards after successfully competing in quiz show and map making contest in a national summit.

VSU team secured 3rd place both in the quiz show and map making competition in the recently concluded National Geodetic Engineering Summit x Geodetic Engineering Student Conference 2024 (NATGESxGEC 2024) held at the University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD).

Lovely Mae Peñalosa, Kobe Bruce M. Serundo, and Richard E. Tagnipez, Jr. bested 15 participating schools in the country in the national quiz competition.

The team showcased their ability to solve problems and apply concepts in laws, mathematics, basic surveying, geodesy, remote sensing, Geographic Information System (GIS), and photogrammetry.

Meanwhile, the team of John Diether A. Rosales, Paul Ephraim S. Esdrelon, and Cyrell Mae L. Duquita also secured the third spot in the map making contest which tested their knowledge and skills in data analysis and map-making.

In this competition, they were challenged to make a map using Geomatics showcasing information on the trends and advancements in Urban Planning and Development.

VSU Team was accompanied by Engr. Glenda Loraine S. Sobrio, a faculty member of DGE.

Aside from the competitions, the 20 participating schools in this year’s NATGESxGEC 2024 learned from different talks related to geodetic engineering including open geospatial, remote sensing in building resilience, maps, open mapping, and geomatics for renewable energy resource assessment.

The event ran from April 28 to 29 and was anchored on the theme, “GeoARCANA: Unearthing the Limitless Breakthroughs in Geomatics.”
