The Association of Rodeo Enthusiasts in Visca (AREV) bagged second place in the overall ranking of the 28th Rodeo Festival held in Masbate from April 9 to 13, 2024.
This year, the country’s biggest rodeo festival or a sports competition showcasing the skills in riding and roping cattle organized seven competitions: steer wrestling, bull riding, two-man carambola, four-man carambola, load carrying, lassoing, and bull whipping.
Out of the seven events, the VSU-AREV hailed as champions in four competitions namely in steer wrestling, bull riding, two-man carambola, and load carrying.
The team also secured second spots in lassoing on foot in the men's category, as well as in lassoing on horseback and bull whipping both in the women’s category, respectively.
For this rodeo competition, 18 teams were competing under the student category, and 13 teams from the professional category across the country.
Mr. Michael Dominic M. Garrido and Dr. Julius V. Abela, organizational advisers of AREV accompanied the team in the week-long competition in Masbate City.
The Rodeo Festival in Masbate is a celebration of the cattle farming in the province. This yearly event is held every second week of April to promote the rich cattle industry and capture the essence of raising these farm animals.
VSU is set to host a National Livestock Challenge as part of its Centennial Anniversary celebration this coming April 22, 2024.
