To all our campus journalists and campus press advisers in Eastern Visayas, this is not a drill!
After five long years, the much anticipated Regional Tertiary Schools Press Conference (RTSPC) returns to the Visayas State University as part of its monthlong centennial activities.
RTSPC8 is co-presented to you by various national and regional organizations including CampusJourn University, the Regional Tertiary Schools Press Advisers’ Association (RTSPAA), The Amaranth (VSU’s Official Student Media Organization), Rappler’s MovePH, FYT Media, the VSU Department of Development Communication (DDC), the University Integrated Media Center (UIMC), the Association of Development Communication Educators and Practitioners (ADCEP) Philippines, and the Philippine Association of Communication Educators (PACE).
It is also favorably endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office VIII (CHEDRO8), and the Eastern Visayas Chapter of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC8).
This is the fourth time that we are bringing this prestigious event to VSU. As previously practiced, the host school and its official student media organization ‘The Amaranth’ will not be part of individual and group competitions. The host school can only join the plenary sessions and parallel workshops.
Anchored on the theme “The Student Press in an A.I. World", the event will be the biggest gathering of campus publication staff from private and state-funded higher education institutions (HEIs) in Region VIII. The conference also aims to strengthen the alliance of campus journalists who will be trained in tapping social media for various development advocacies and make them able partners in nation-building.
This year, the organizers are bringing prominent names in the media industry to VSU to discuss how we can harness social good in the digital age. Finally, RTSPC8 will also be joined by journalism and communication faculty members as workshop speakers and adjudicators from established communication schools outside of Eastern Visayas.
The individual registration fee is Php8,500.00 inclusive of hotel accommodations within VSU (5D5N), food for 4 days (with three meals and 2 snacks from the official start of the conference to the last day), conference kit, notebook, polo shirt, and other freebies from our corporate sponsors. The conference fee will also cover a free tour and socials dinner at the famous 16,000 Blossoms of Baybay City which is now a popular tourism destination in the region.
All conference participants are highly encouraged to pre-register by student publication at bit.ly/rtspc2024-prereg on or before March 25, 2024, so that our committees can arrange for them promptly. Our accommodation places and t-shirts will be available on a first-come, first-served basis based on the pre-registration.
The contests are divided into three types namely individual, group, and special overall awards. The individual contests consist of basic journalism skills events while the group contests are composed of print, online, and video. Special overall awards are obtained by calculating the cumulative points of both individual and group contests.
As accustomed, awards for each contest category will be given from the Fifth (5th) place up to the First (1st) place.
For the first time, we have updated the mechanics for Campus Press of the Year, giving the prestigious award to three categories: one for SUC main campuses, one for LUCs and SUC component campuses, and one for private HEIs. Furthermore, individual contest performance will be an added point basis for the Campus Press award.
You can find the full contest guidelines along with the letter of invitation, the program of activities, and the endorsement of both PASUC8 and CHEDRO8 in this Google Drive link:
