SCUAA 2022

The Visayas State University (VSU) Pythons ended the Regional State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Meet bagging second in the overall championship held at Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) from November 29 to December 2, 2022.

This is the twice in a row that VSU Pythons bagged the second overall champion and the second most gold medals, the last being in 2019. In this year’s SCUAA, VSU obtained 12 gold medals, 6 silver medals, and 9 bronze medals from different sporting events. The three-day sporting events highlighted the true Viscan values of camaraderie and sportsmanship.

Dr. Edgardo E. Tulin, VSU and PASUC-8 President, declared the 2022 Regional SCUAA MEET during the opening ceremony held last November 29 at SLSU Oval.

Dr. Tulin, together with other SUC Presidents gathered at the stage in support of their respective universities and athletes vying for the championship.

The night of the opening ceremony continues with a battle of brain and brawn. Eleven pairs from the participating universities competed for the Mr. and Ms. SCUAA. The dashing VSU bets Mr. Raniel John Mercado and Ms. Ruela Corpuz have conquered the stage in different parts of the pageant, including the Barong and Terno competition.

Mr. Raniel John Mercado bagged the Best in Swimwear and placed third-runner up.

The first medals

The VSU Pythons claimed their first medals as vocal duet and vocal solo contenders reap gold and silver finish during the Talent Festival competition in the SCUAA 2022 Wednesday, November 30.

The pair of Noeleen Andrea Restor and Joshua Dayandayan won the first golds for VSU Pythons for vocal duet competition during the 2022 Talent Festival performing their rendition of Ikaw ang Pangarap by Martin Nivera.

Mary Grace Gara secured a silver medal for her performance in the vocal solo competitions. Gara performed her own rendition of Tagumpay Nating Lahat by Gary Granada and Lea Salonga.

On the other hand, the VSU Men’s and Women’s badminton team remained on top during the whole regional SCUAA Meet after both divisions won gold in the championship round.

The VSU Pythons Women’s Table Tennis team were the last one to obtain gold medals  after a grueling finals match against NwSSU Lions in a narrow 2-1 team victory.

The VSU Pythons Women's Volleyball and Softball teams also bagged silver and bronze finish, respectively.

Back to where it began

VSU will once again host the SCUAA next year, back to where it all began. This was announced during the closing ceremony of SCUAA 2022.

Next year's SCUAA will hold more sporting events, so expect a more exciting competition in the Very Scenic University!
