The Visayas State University has just been named the Top 1 performing school in the recently concluded November 2022 Nursing Licensure Examination (NLE) for obtaining a 100% passing percentage with fifty (50) total examinees.
This is the biggest number of NLE takers produced by the VSU College of Nursing (CoN) since its establishment in 2007. This college is also proud to maintain a 100% passing percentage streak for 8 years now since 2015.
Joining VSU in the list of top-performing schools are 18 other universities and colleges that include Saint Louis University, University of Santo Tomas, Xavier University, Cebu Doctors University, Velez College, West Visayas State University, Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology, Benguet State University, Silliman University, Trinity University of Asia, Chinese General Hospital Colleges, Bicol University in both of their Tabaco and Polangui campuses, Cebu Normal University, Centro Escolar University in Makati, Ateneo de Davao University, Ateneo de Naga University, and Saint Paul University in Dumaguete.
As announced by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC), a total of 18,539 out of 24,903 takers passed the November 2022 NLE with a national passing percentage of 74.40%.
On top of that impressive passing performance, VSU also gets its first board topnotcher in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program with Althea Grace C. Mosende obtaining the 8th spot in this board examination.
Althea hails from Ormoc City and is a daughter of a public school teacher and a sanitary inspector. Despite not graduating with Latin Honors, she has been one of the top-performing students in her batch as revealed by her former clinical instructors.
“I was awakened by a call from my friend who told me that I topped the boards. In my grogginess, I was in disbelief to receive such news because I never expected to really perform well in this exam. All I wanted was just to pass the boards and hopefully practice my profession in a local hospital here in our city,” the topnotcher shared.
Althea is a scholar of a local scholarship program provided by the Ormoc Doctors’ Hospital (OrmocDoc), the largest and most advanced private tertiary healthcare facility in Western Leyte that is under the management of the Cebu Doctors’ Group of Hospitals.
Under this scholarship, Althea received financial support for her studies and for the expenses she incurred in reviewing and taking the board examination. In exchange, she is expected to serve locally and fulfill a return of service with OrmocDoc.
Althea believes that her strong educational background and training that she acquired from VSU was very vital to her current success.
“One of the many things that I learned in VSU is the endurance to study late at night and have the commitment to excel in the many activities that we need to perform in class. Surviving nursing education requires so much stamina as you need to absorb a lot of technical stuff and more importantly, you need to know how to perform and apply them in real-life situations,” the topnotcher continued.
Joining Althea in the list of successful #ProudViscan examinees are 49 new nurses who are all first-time takers. They include the following:

In the Eastern Visayas region, Samar State University also obtained a 100% passing percentage for first-time takers with a total of 10 examinees. They also have a board topnotcher who clinched the Top 4 spot.
The fourth NLE during the COVID-19 era was conducted on November 12 and 13, 2022 in 16 cities all over the country particularly in Manila, Baguio, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Koronadal, Legaspi, Lucena, Pagadian, Pampanga, Rosales, Tacloban, Tuguegarao, and Zamboanga.
This recent achievement of VSU-CoN makes them the undisputed best nursing school in the region with a consistent 100% passing percentage since 2015 and a multi-awarded set of faculty researchers who were named as the two of the best health researchers in Eastern Visayas.
This also solidifies VSU’s bid to open a separate College of Medicine that is currently under the works and is expected to be offered in two years.
