Congratulations to Dr. J. Prospero E. De Vera III on his re-appointment as Chairperson of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
No less than President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. accorded this re-appointment few days before his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) giving the incumbent CHED prime mover a fresh six-year term.
In his official Facebook account, Chair Popoy thanked President Marcos on his re-appointment in CHED.
“Maraming salamat PBBM sa iyong tiwala at pagbibigay ng pagkakataon na mabigyan natin ng Libre, de Kalidad at Makabuluhang Mataas na Edukasyon ang Kabataang Pilipino!”
Meanwhile, the Tulin family and the whole constituency of the Visayas State University system extend our warmest greetings to the very man who pushed for greater quality of Philippine Higher Education.
Chair Popoy is also credited as the father of UniFAST, the national policy that provided free tertiary education to more than 1.5 million college students enrolled in state universities and colleges (SUCs). The UniFAST, under Dr. De Vera’s leadership, has also extended this free education program to selected local universities and colleges (LUCs) all over the country.
He is also the man behind the massive internationalization program of SUCs allowing greater number of Philippine universities to be ranked and rated in international rating systems like Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) and the Impact Rankings of the Times Higher Education (THE).
The incumbent CHED Chair has also been known to many because of his innovative community-oriented programs like ‘Padyak’, a nationwide caravan that aimed to promote the important role of tertiary education in building a stronger and more resilient Philippines.
Dr. De Vera is also the concurrent Chairperson of the VSU Board of Regents, the highest governing body of the university. His leadership in VSU’s board has provided enabling policies that made the university as one of the best SUCs in the country based on numerous international and national ranking systems.
With his reappointment to CHED, the VSU community is very excited to continue pursuing projects and programs that will lead to greater global status for the university.
Mabuhay po kayo, Chair Popoy at Mabuhay ang buong pamunuan ng ating Komisyon!
