NGOs laud VSU’s support in livelihood projects

The Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD) recognized VSU’s support in the implementation of a livelihoods program funded by these international non-government organizations (INGOs).

CRS and CAFOD awarded VSU a plaque of appreciation for its support in the Sowing the seeds of recovery and moving together to the market livelihoods program. The plaque was received by Prof. Maria Aurora Teresita Tabada, director of VSU’s Institute of Strategic Research and Development Studies, during the CRS-CAFOD Phase 2b Close-out Workshop and Celebration of Phase 2b Achievements, October 4, at Celebrity Plaza, Tacloban City.

VSU has been a partner of CRS and CAFOD which are both international charities committed to helping underdeveloped and vulnerable communities fight poverty and enhance their potentials. These INGOs were also instrumental in the delivery of relief services after supertyphoon Yolanda (Haiyan) inflicted a PHP 89-B worth of damages to Eastern Visayas.

Primarily involved in the livelihood projects are VSU’s Department of Animal Science, Food Science and Technology, and the Philippine Root Crops Research and Training Center and Philippine Carabao Center.

These units have conducted training on livestock and carabao production,  sweet potato production and processing, which can be sources of income for the indigent and disaster-stricken families. Almost 600 people have benefitted in the carabao and hog production projects alone.

VSU’s partnership with CRS and CAFOD remains to date.
