The Philippine Army Reserve Command (ARESCOM) accorded the Visayas State University (VSU) as the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Unit for Year 2016. This was communicated to VSU through a letter sent by the 8th Regional Community Defense Group based in Camp Downes, Ormoc City.
VSU President Edgardo E. Tulin and National Service Training Program (NSTP) Head Manolo B. Loreto, Jr. will receive the award on behalf of VSU during the 33rd ARESCOM Founding Anniversary to be held at Tanza, Cavite on September 12, 2016.
According to Prof. Loreto, VSU ROTC Unit’s three-year victory as Champion in the Regional Annual Administrative and Tactical Inspection (RAATI) was instrumental in obtaining this national recognition.
On February this year, VSU ROTC Unit was hailed for the third consecutive time as the Regional Champion of the 2016 RAATI after garnering a numerical rating of 96.643. Major Vedasto A. Cabales, Jr. (CE) PA served as Commandant to the VSU delegation.
Prof. Loreto recalled that VSU first received such a national recognition in 1999. For him, it is equally an honor and a humbling experience to be recognized as the best in Eastern Visayas and now as the Best ROTC Unit in the Philippines.
This award comes with a privilege of allowing VSU to pilot the new ROTC curriculum structured after the Philippine Military Academy (PMA).
