VSU Main Campus achieves 100% COPC for undergrad programs; BS Meteorology, 2 grad programs now CHED-compliant
This achievement includes the recent compliance of the Bachelor of Science in Meteorology (BSMet), which was approved by the Commission en Banc (CEB) of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
As part of the CHED policies, standards, guidelines, BSMet was transferred from the College of Engineering and Technology to the newly established Faculty of Natural and Mathematical Sciences (FNMS) under VSU’s new organizational structure.
This restructuring aligns with CHED’s guidelines for programs in science-related fields to make sure it meets all the necessary academic and regulatory standards.
The COPCs for all undergraduate programs marks an important step in confirming that the university’s academic offerings meet the high standards set by CHED to provide students with degrees that are recognized both in the Philippines and beyond, helping them succeed in their future careers.
The Head of the Department of Meteorology Mr. Charlino S. Torrion shared that they started their preparation in April 2023 and was visited by the CHED Technical Panel on Meteorology on November 28-29, 2024 for the evaluation.
“This milestone is a result of the combined efforts of our university administration, faculty, and staff. Thank you all for being part of this proud moment for DMet and VSU,” he added.
Just this year, the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) program in VSU Main Campus has received its COPC from CHED. Meanwhile, the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) program has also been granted COPCs for all five of its specializations: Construction Engineering and Management, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, and Water Resources Engineering.
These are the first COPCs granted to both the BSME and BSCE programs in the Visayas region, making VSU a trailblazer in engineering program compliance.
The COPCs VSU received confirmed that VSU’s programs are aligned with the national educational standards that will help students gain the skills they need to excel in their careers.
It also assures future employers that VSU graduates are ready for the workforce, having completed programs that meet industry expectations
COPCs for the Graduate Programs
VSU also made notable progress for the graduate programs. Out of 30, 23 have now earned COPCs, including the recently awarded compliance for the Master of Land Administration and Management (MLAM) and Master of Science in Land Administration and Management (MSLAM).
VSU’s Quality Assurance Director Dr. Joel Rey U. Acob shared the importance of these accreditations, noting that the Quality Assurance Office is dedicated to making sure all programs meet CHED’s standards.
He mentioned that while some difficult decisions are sometimes necessary, such as temporarily shelving programs without COPCs, they ultimately protect the integrity of the institution and its students.
“Collaboration is the new term for whatever successful acts the university is engaging in,” Dr. Acob said, emphasizing that the university’s success is the result of the efforts from all offices working together.
This achievement represents another step in VSU’s pursuit of academic excellence and its goal to provide studentd with a well-rounded and competitive education that aligns with both national and international studnets.
With the 100% COPCs for all the undergraduate programs, VSU continues to establish itself as a leading institution in higher education, shaping the next generation of professionals and leaders.
