VSU welcomes new international students, honors graduates
The celebration started with an orientation session where students learned about important VSU policies, university life, and essential topics like Safe Spaces and Anti-Sexual Harassment laws. The goal was to provide a solid foundation for their academic and social experience in the university. The program continued with a fellowship night, an opportunity to meet the university officials and connect with peers.
Beyond the formal orientation, the IARO organized additional events focused on helping students adapt to Filipino culture.
These activities included traditional Filipino dances, music, and food sampling that allow the international students to experience local customs while also sharing aspects of their own cultures.
They also participated in guided tours that provided them with a closer look in VSU’s facilities in Baybay City, as well as the urban center of Ormoc City.
On April 3, 2025, the Graduate Education held a send-off recognition for five graduating international students. The ceremony, attended by the university officials and members of the students’ Graduate Advisory Committees (GAC), celebrated their academic achievements.
Each student received tokens and medals in recognition of their hard work and dedication throughout their studies.
In her message, VSU President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes said that they have not only enriched the university with their diverse perspectives but also have contributed to shaping an academic community that thrives for inclusion.
“As you move forward, may you carry the VSU spirit, one of excellence, leadership, and service to the greater good,” she added.
The weeklong celebration is a manifestation of VSU’s support to international students to provide them with enriching experiences, and honor those who have successfully completed their academic journey in VSU.
VSU demonstrates its dedication to create an accepting and helpful academic setting for international students who start their studies and remain until graduation day. The university aims to maintain its status as a global-focused institution through delivering full orientation programming alongside cultural immersion events, recognition ceremonies alongside training activities for new students.
