The workshop brought together 15 educators from VSU Tolosa, sparking enthusiasm and active participation on November 21-22, 2024. The initiative aimed to equip attendees with crucial tools and techniques to enhance educational strategies using modern teaching advancements through technology.

The first day featured in-depth discussions by expert speakers on key topics in creating learning slides and videos, including visual language, PowerPoint design and guidelines, scriptwriting, and video production. The resource speakers included notable figures from DDC, namely, Mariane U. dela Peña, Dr. Christina A. Gabrillo, and Dr. Jude Nonie A. Sales, who is the project leader of the seminar-workshop series, and a renowned artist and educator from Baybay City, Mr. Rolex P. Gelig. Their comprehensive sessions guided participants through the process of creating impactful instructional materials and insights on how to practice these materials for better teaching and learning.

On the second day, participants showcased their outputs in group presentations, which were constructively critiqued by the speakers. These outputs included PowerPoint presentations, scripts, and video materials, highlighting the participants’ creative application of the lessons learned.

The workshop culminated in an awards ceremony, including the presentation of certificates and recognizing the group with the best overall presentation. The winning group included Jet Lee S. Olimberio, Aira Anibail B. Llevado, Lizel M. Laurente, and Syra Cinco from the Department of Arts and Sciences.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Danilo D. Lerios, Head of the General Services Office, emphasized the importance of urging participants to utilize their newfound knowledge and skills to uplift the quality of education at VSU.

“At this point, there will be no reason that we cannot produce topnotchers again in the licensure examination because you are now the teachers who have attended this seminar. You are chosen to become the model of the instruction here in our university.”

Initial assessments at VSU Tolosa revealed that 40% of faculty members had not attended previous seminars or workshops on instructional materials. It is imperative that projects like Harnessing the Potentials of IMs and ICTs for Improved Learning, led by Culture and the Arts Center (CAC) Director, Dr. Sales, should be initiated.

While this was the inaugural workshop under the project, it marks a significant step towards empowering educators across the VSU system to adopt advanced teaching techniques and technologies. The ultimate result is to foster efficient knowledge transfer and produce globally competitive graduates.
