Organized by the local government of Baybay City, Dr. Ulderico B. Alviola, Head of the Department of Development Communication and University Integrated Media Center (UIMC), together with Mr. Paul Vincent L. Fornis, Media Production Specialist and resident Graphics Chief of the university, were tapped to extend their technical knowledge and expertise to the CAO personnel.

Dr. Alviola and Mr. Fornis led the workshop by training the CAO personnel on improving their data monitoring and designing effective infographics that encapsulate the reports of their agricultural projects.

This training-workshop is aligned with the City’s commitment to producing skilled and competent CAO personnel who can create comprehensive reports using the data from the Result-Based Monitoring and Evaluation (RBME)—an initiative designed by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to track the results of the local development projects implemented by every LGU.

Following their training on RBME, the LGU Baybay saw the need to train their CAO staff on report preparation. To equip them with skills in providing accurate and concise reports that will be used by the LGU in crafting informed decisions to push for greater agricultural productivity.

With this, Mr. Fornis conducted an infographic design workshop starting with a lecture on the importance of information and graphic design and how to integrate the two strategies to create an effective and comprehensive report and thoroughly discussed data visualization.

After the training, Mr. Fornis assigned the participants to create sample infographic materials and he evaluated the outputs later.

The City Government of Baybay through Mayor Jose Carlos L. Cari extended their gratitude to VSU for assisting their local government personnel on infographics design that will be useful in their report preparation.

In a City Council resolution sponsored by Councilor Jose L. Bacusmo, the Office of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Baybay City has recognized Dr. Alviola and Mr. Fornis’ efforts and services rendered in the successful training-workshop with the CAO personnel.

“Whereas, in view of the foregoing, the august body thus deemed it befitting to convey appreciation for the invaluable services extended by Dr. Ulderico B. Alviola and Mr. Paul Vincent L. Fornis for the successful conduct of the training-workshop for the City Agricultural Office personnel on Report Preparation with Emphasis on the Use of Infographics at the Baybay City Hall,” the resolution reads. 

VSU Media Team is also grateful to extend their technical assistance to Baybay City local government for productively engaging with the university in many areas ranging from capacity building initiatives to implementing research projects that would directly improve the lives of Baybayanons.

For many years now, Baybay City and VSU have effectively maintained a strong symbiotic relationship that made way for shared growth and development for both institutions. 

These collaborations are not only exclusive to ensuring quality higher education for Baybayanons but also about sustainable agricultural pursuits, continued manpower development and upskilling of local government employees, executing eco-tourism projects to promote the City, financial literacy for farmers and fisherfolk, and other important environmental initiatives, among others.

VSU President Prose Ivy G. Yepes vowed to intensify the ongoing engagements between VSU and the local government of Baybay City as the university enters a new chapter following the successful celebration of the Centennial founding year of VSU.
